Welcome to Team ARAM!

Team ARAM is an independent meta-research group studying embodied intelligence, the computational discipline concerning systems that engage in a purposeful exchange of energy and information with a physical environment. Our interests span method-centric visual computing topics in character animation, simulated robotics, generative modeling, digital humans, and more.

About Us

Team ARAM is a counter-culture movement to the prevalent lone-wolfism of the post-COVID academia, founded to promote and facilitate a collaborative research environment for researchers of all levels (BSc/MSc/PhD/postdoc/faculty) in quantitative disciplines.

We focus on learning and refining the research process, yielding fruits as evidence of growth; we produce exciting visual results, open-source software, high-quality BSc/MSc theses, and papers in peer-reviewed publication venues co-authored by members. We welcome highly-motivated researchers and students who wish to connect, learn, and contribute in our dynamic environment.

ARAM?

Our name, ARAM, stands for Animation, Robotics, and Machine Learning, as these happen to be the shared interests among the current members. However, we wish to honour the spirit of the acronym's true origin--All Random All Mid, where collaboration and synergy is the key to success, people of diverse backgrounds and disciplines find their places, and genuine moments of fun, curiosity, and hilarity drive the atmosphere.

Why should I join ARAM?

As a member of ARAM, you will:

  • Get to check in regularly with like-minded colleagues who are genuinely curious about the problem you are solving
  • Learn critical knowledge work skills via caring feedback and critique
  • Contribute to important and exciting research challenges
  • Explore and engage with potential topics for your thesis project with hands-on supervision from knowledgeable colleagues

We provide supervision and advising for BSc and MSc theses. If you are interested, please get in touch with us (join us).

Our core values

  • Clarity in communication, outward and inward. Ask lots of questions to clarify, and have a very low tolerance for confusion. Be able to read the room and make space for comments and questions every step of the way.
  • Accountability and readiness for admission of failure. Be very regular in keeping others up to date on your fast-moving journey. Aim to fail fast and fail often, and present failure without fear of judgment or diminishment.
  • Empathy and communal resilience. Be able to relate to others' problems at a heart-to-heart level, say "I've been there too." Show up to your own and others' failures alike, ready to affirm and accept.
